Over the course of his fifteen-year NFL
career, Garo Yepremian faced many challenges.
But none were more difficult than the one he was presented
with in 1998. His son, Azad, learned that his girlfriend of
four years, Debby-Lu Tashjian, was diagnosed with an inoperable
brain tumor and was given only six months to live.
Azad married Debby-Lu shortly thereafter,
and the couple weathered the storm together. Debby greatly
outlived her doctor's prognosis, but passed away in August
of 2004.
During these six years, Garo decided to
channel his energy into something positive. After establishing
The Garo Yepremian Foundation for Brain Tumor Research, he
set out to do something he had never done before– oil
painting.
Garo thought that at the very least, his
art would provide a calming diversion for his family at this
stressful time. What emerged are works which are colorful,
uplifting, and inspiring. The paintings are a reflection of
Garo's desire to bring peace and happiness to those need it
most.
